Volunteer Opportunities

So many community volunteer opportunities are available at Sunshine Center.

Classroom Volunteers
Volunteers are welcomed to help in the ten classrooms at Sunshine Center. They can assist the teachers and paraprofessionals by reading to the children, hosting circle time activities, helping during outside playground time and at snack and lunch breaks.

Other classroom activities include assisting the children with computer time, coordinating a classroom visit to our on-site family lending library, organizing a musical arts activity or planning an art center craft are all other ways in which community volunteers enrich the lives of Sunshine’s children with special needs.

Classroom volunteers are welcomed to help out at Sunshine during our regular hours of operation, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. Many area high school students volunteer at Sunshine to fulfill their Community Service requirement for graduation. We often welcome them back as regular volunteers!

For more information on how you can volunteer at Sunshine Center, please contact Chris Rounds, Associate Director at (816) 833-2088.

Special Event Volunteers
Special event volunteer opportunities abound at Sunshine. Both fund-raising events, the Sundance and the Truman Run/Walk utilize the services of volunteers. Volunteers can assist with soliciting auction items and setting up the silent auction at Sundance, monitor an intersection on the Truman Run to direct runners to the correct course, and assist with event registration and decoration, volunteers are always welcome on the planning committees for each event.

Other events are the annual Rockman Classic Golf Tournament and our annual Motorcycle Ride. Volunteers for each of these special events are also needed.

For information on Special Event Volunteer opportunities, please contact Chris Rounds at (816) 833-2088 or by E-mail at crounds@sunshinecenter.org to sign up!
