| "Serving Children With Special Needs Since 1975"
Sunshine Center School is pleased to welcome you to its web site. Here you will find important information about the services that Sunshine offers to children with special needs in our community.
Our mission is "to provide individually specialized services that enhance the lives of children and their families."
We have been serving children with developmental delays, fragile medical conditions and physical disabilities since 1975. We are headquartered at our Independence, Missouri location.

We offer a comprehensive program in early intervention special education, speech, physical and occupational therapy and early childhood education. In an inclusive setting, typically developing children learn alongside their peers who are challenged with autism, spina bifida, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, speech impairments and other disabilities.
Sunshine is a not for profit organization whose goal is to prepare children to enter the school system ready for the educational challenges that will help them fulfill their lives.
Sunshine is accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is licensed by the State of Missouri Department of Health as a childcare facility. We are a United Way funded agency.
Sunshine Center also offers a private school, sanctioned and approved by the State of Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, for medically fragile students.
We offer a full service nutrition program to all students, a transportation program, extracurricular activities, a family lending library and a program of family activities that extend beyond our doors into the community.
